Community is defined by its inclusivity and support. By good people fostering the comfort of belonging. Local events offer an opportunity of shared experience — to bring people closer again. And when the times get tough, it's that community offering a metaphorical — and literal — hand on your back to keep the pedals turning towards the summit.
One day. One iconic mountain. Four gravel climbs.
"I took a spill early on. I slid out and landed on my hip and wrist. It hurt immensely and the pain took over for the extent of the event — but the people I rode with after the first climb helped me continue, through good conversation and encouragement."
"I think San Francisco offers a lot more support and inclusivity for women in the sport than other places, but there’s always room for improvement. It’s a progressive place to live and as a result I think there’s been more awareness and initiative to spotlight women who ride.”
"Sure, being a fast femme is nice, and I’ve been carried by the community due in part by this factor, but the reality of the cycling world is that there’s a high barrier to entry and not everyone has an opportunity to do this. I want that to change."
Marcelina and a local crew of riders took on four ascents of Mt. Tamalpais — 4500m of elevation over 160km — in all weathers. There were fast riders and hard efforts, but good vibes won the day.
