Tom Evans

Versatility is key to success. Trail running is never the same — from one day to the next and from one surface to the next. Tom Evans has excelled in the shifting sands of the Sahara, the humidity of the jungle, and the breathless high mountains. His approach to trail running is rigorous and diligent. Few athletes possess the mental and physical fortitude — the adaptability — to win at the 100-mile Western States and just a few months later be in the mix with the world’s fastest cross country athletes over 10km.

“Firstly, on nutrition, make sure you fuel your runs correctly. If you want to run hundreds of miles, you've got to fuel with hundreds of grams of carbohydrates — in training and in racing. And that's in order to, both, achieve your maximum performance, but also to make sure you are recovering properly in between sessions.

As for trail running, I think my main bit of advice would be to just get out and enjoy it. Don't hesitate — it's all going to work out. Get out into the mountains, spend big days in the high hills with your friends, having a great time. And trust in that process that, come race day, you'll be ready.” — Tom Evans.
