Prepare for your marathon

Prepare for your marathon

Fueling with carbohydrates is key to getting the most out of your training and final performance at the marathon. Many athletes can suffer from gastrointestinal distress when consuming carbohydrate fuel while running — this is why it’s key to practice taking your race day fuel in training. Maurten Hydrogel Technology enables high concentrations of carbohydrates to be more tolerable to runners — making it easier to fuel.

FAQ

FAQ

A:

Consume a carbohydrate-rich breakfast (1-4g per kg body weight of carbohydrates in the 1-4 hours prior) while avoiding high fiber and high fat foods to reduce the risk of gut issues. To support your pre-race carbohydrate and hydration needs, sip on a Drink Mix 160 that morning and add a Solid 160 to your meal for an additional 80g of carbohydrates.

A:

Gel 100 Caf 100 provides 100 mg of caffeine, similar to a cup of coffee. Caffeine can take 15-45 minutes to reach peak concentration in your bloodstream — so the timing of caffeine can be important in a race. If there is a big hill ahead of you on your run, take a Gel 100 Caf 100 about 20-30 minutes prior to ensure you are getting the maximum benefit. When running a marathon, alternate non-caffeinated with caffeinated products to spread out the benefits.

A:

A fueling plan is personal and should be planned out and practiced in training beforehand. A general rule of thumb is to take a Gel every 30-40 minutes. Build your personalized fuel plan with Maurten Fuel Planner to see exactly when to take each Gel according to your personal physiology, pace, and the course profile of your marathon.
